The Pentecostal Congregational Church of the Amazon is the result of a powerful missionary calling placed on the heart of a young American, Leon Morgan Reese. In 1972, moved by the Holy Spirit, Brother Leon responded in obedience and traveled to Manaus, Brazil, with a deep burden to establish a Congregational Pentecostal church in the heart of the Amazon. Upon his arrival, he connected with several North American missionaries already serving in the Amazonas region. Through these relationships, he was introduced to the municipality of Codajás, specifically a small locality known as Sacambuzinho. There, he stepped into a developing missionary work alongside Pastor Raimundo Bastos, embracing the vision and continuing the labor of reaching the people of the Amazon with the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ. From those early days in the jungle villages, the mission in Brazil has grown into a vibrant and enduring ministry. The Pentecostal Congregational Church of the Amazon stands as a testimony to the power of obedience, the faithfulness of God’s calling, and the enduring fruit of missions work grounded in prayer, partnership, and perseverance. Today, the mission continues to flourish, bringing the Gospel to unreached communities, discipling believers, and raising up local leaders to carry the light of Christ deeper into the Amazon and beyond.
